i brought home a new D300 yesterday ....

tried to get comfy with it ... then got frustrated. it turned itself off kind of indicating a dead battery .....

i turned it off and back on .... and surprise, it came back to life. it kept on doing this ... so i looked it up on google and found others have or are dealing with this same problem. i called the store, they said bring it back! so now i have a replacement. i hope it Will work, for it has to do a shoot in a couple of hours....

my point, it may not do you any good, buy try to test it before you bring it home .......

cheers

Hi Peter, 99% of the time the isues you have with dslr's are battery related. the bigest problem seams to be the contact points in the battery compartment. I find myself cleaning them all the time. I carry a pencil with an rubber eraser on the top (pinched it from the kids) just the job for doing it. Had'nt heard of any problems with the D300 so maybe a one off. Good luck with your shoot, and remember what Roger said, when working with kids keep Mum close. If i have to adjust a brides vail I use my aformentioned pencil. NEVER touch a child. Smile

Hi Phil, it would seem that it may be more then just a one off, the URLs below may attest to that. of course one can never know the true numbers this way. my D200 never a problem.

i think the problem was other than the contacts at the battery, will never know now, the replacement seems to be working fine at the moment. the pencil eraser is a great idea, i know of it, but never carry one with me......i will see about acquiring one.

i had grandma, and mom close by, holding the infant continually. though he had smiles, he did not care for the guy with the camera. mostly ignored me. with a lot of photoshop work, i might rescue a few shots. now all i need is to learn photoshop.

cheers
